Becoming a full-time teacher

I never thought that I would become a full-time teacher because I was only planning on doing it part-time. However, when I needed more income, it was pretty easy to see that I would need more students to teach. At first, I was just happy to reach 20 students. I never expected anything more, but the pressure of moving out on my own forced me to reconsider that plan. There was no point in not going full-time. When you live out on your own, you need all the income that you can get. And I knew that there were tons of things that I would have to spend my money on. We bought a plunger and we now buy tons of groceries. All of this seems really stressful and it definitely was.

I can’t tell you how stressful it is to now have 34 students. I mean… I was so content with teaching 7 students for 1-2 years. I didn’t gain anymore and I was okay with that. However, I work full days now. And that might seem scary to some people, but that is nothing to be afraid of. When I wake up in the morning to my 12 hour work day, I don’t think that it would be stressful. I just teach one lesson at a time. Believe it or not, the days go by really fast. And the income is pretty good too.

How do I manage 34 students? I’m not sure how to answer this. I would say that I’m a strict teacher. I expect A LOT from my students, so there is a high level of expectation that I’m looking from them. They also know how to be off task. And I’ve learned that that is completely okay. Honestly, I give them my full attention when I’m teaching. I know teachers that will eat or do something else while their student is playing the C major scale. I don’t do that. Therefore, I know that I can give my 100% for each lesson. And they really appreciate this. Overall, it takes a lot of work. But if you want to make it work, it suddenly becomes very easy.

Best of wishes!
